Diego's Mother
Diego cares for his mother significantly. His main motivation for becoming a street fighter was to gain the funds needed to pay for his mother's hospital bills. Her illness is the reason he initially declines to join the sixth Dead or Alive tournament, not wanting to leave her behind. It isn’t until his mother encourages him to not let her stand in the way of his future that Diego finally lets himself be convinced by Rig to enter the tournament, though he does compete with the additional motive of winning the financial prize to continue to take care of her.

Mila
Mila apparently knows Diego from some point in her past, as she recognizes him outside the gym and is friends enough with him to invite him in for a spar. When Zack informed Mila about Diego’s reason for declining an invitation to the sixth Dead or Alive tournament, Mila becomes worried of what will become of Diego’s life regarding his ill mother. She later expresses relief that the street fighter was convinced by his mother and Rig to join the tournament and wishes him the best in winning.

Zack
Having heard rumors of Diego’s strength in New York. Zack flew to the state to check it out and personally invite Diego to the sixth Dead or Alive tournament. He’s comfortable enough around Diego to tease him into a test fight and as a self-taught fighter himself, eager to check out Diego’s skills himself. However, upon Diego’s decline to enter DOA, Zack is understanding of the street fighter’s situation, but still disappointed. Like Mila, he’s excited to learn Rig managed to convince Diego to enter, but shows concern for Diego’s mother’s health while he’s away. He later tries to prevent Diego and Jann Lee’s unofficial Round 2, concerned for both fighters’ exhausted states, but ultimately permits it to continue uninterrupted.

Rig
Diego’s prompter to enter the sixth Dead or Alive tournament and first rival. Rig overhears Mila and Zack’s conversation about Diego’s current situation with his ill mother and subsequently confronts him at a street fight. Noticing the similarities between himself and Diego, Rig decides he doesn’t want to see either himself or Diego live life in a self-made cage and eventually convinces the street fighter to join the DOATEC tournament on behalf of Diego’s mother. The pair, despite Diego’s initial anger towards Rig’s admittedly-rude-but-well-meaning "convincing," end up on good terms. At least until Rig’s brainwashing, which Diego is currently unaware of.

Jann Lee
Diego’s final opponent in the sixth Dead or Alive tournament and second rival. Upon meeting, both men note each other’s strength and positions as champion and challenger before clashing. Although Jann Lee defeats him officially in the tournament, Diego forced himself back up and challenges Jann Lee to an unofficial second round. This earns him Jann Lee's respect; after both men fight themselves to exhaustion, Diego secures his victory and Jann Lee honorably accepts his defeat from the street fighter with a smile.

New York Kids
Diego grew up on the back streets of New York and knows the hardships of living in the alleys of the great city. He has a soft spot for the kids who hang around him and look up to him as their hero, sometimes escorting them to places they want to go and displaying a protective attitude when they’re nearby. The boys he’s shown with can get him to do things he’s initially hesitant to do, usually by pulling on his arms or pushing his legs while pleading with him until he finally gives in, though it does embarrass him a little.
